EAT
September is the most wonderful time of the year, at least in terms of the Maritime harvest! Check out the 2024 Taste of Nova Scotia Culinary Guide for local recipes, food events happening this Fall across the province, and a guide to what’s in season. (Pictured – the Nova Scotia Grazing Board on pg 24, with piece-by-piece assembly instructions to create this gorgeous spread of fresh, local meats and produce).
READ
Red Pen Reviews is a group of science writers who go through popular nutrition-theory books with a fine-toothed comb to ascertain 1) the scientific accuracy of the book’s health claims, 2) the correct use of scientific references cited to arrive at these claims, and finally, 3) the “healthfulness” of the book’s advice to readers. It’s a great resource to get the gist of buzzy nutrition books that clients are talking about and to choose your own next pop-science nutrition book to read!
LEARN
Pancreatic insufficiency has a huge impact on effective nutrient absorption and can easily cause malnutrition. Take the free CE course in September 2024’s virtual issue of Today’s Dietitian to learn how RD’s are well-placed to prevent serious malnutrition events. Topics include calculating increased calorie and protein needs, managing steatorrhea, optimizing PERT administration, and lifestyle modifications to consider.
